🔎 What Does the Regulation Say in Turkey?
🗓 The use of winter tires is mandatory from November 15 to April 15
for all vehicles engaged in intercity passenger and goods transport.
💸 Non-compliance will result in a ₺5,856 administrative fine.
Key points:
• Within provincial borders, local authorities (Governorships) may extend or advance the start date by one month.
• All tires must be winter-type for cars, light trucks, and minibuses.
• For trucks, tractors, tankers, and buses, all tires on the drive axles must be winter-type.
• Snow chains do not replace winter tire requirements.
• Studded tires (for icy surfaces) may substitute winter tires.
• Exempt vehicles: tractors, motorcycles, and Turkish Armed Forces vehicles.
📌 Final Thought
While winter tire regulations primarily hold drivers responsible, road safety is a shared ecosystem responsibility.
Interestingly, even in cold-climate countries like the Netherlands and Iceland, the absence of a legal obligation highlights that true traffic safety relies on systemic design — not just individual compliance.
