Marriages are decreasing, divorces are increasing… ⁉️So ?️ How is Automotive affected by this?
03/03/2026❌ Short answer: No.
✅ Long answer: It depends on how it’s charged.
The number of electric vehicles in TÜRKİYE is increasing rapidly. With this increase, the same question comes up frequently: “Wouldn’t that much Electric Vehicle be a problem for the grid?”
🔍 It is not only the total consumption (kWh) that puts a strain on the grid, but also the simultaneously charged power (kW), i.e. the evening peak.
🚨 BAD SCENARIO (No Control)︎
- If everyone charges their electric vehicle at home between 18:00 and 22:00 as soon as they come from work, and so, if it creates a “demand peak” ︎
- If residential transformers are not designed with electric vehicle charging planned ︎
- If there is no time-based tariff ︎If there is no smart charging
➡️ Local transformer strains and voltage drops are seen.
➡️ Local transformer-related problems occur and local investments are required!
There isa perception that “Electric Vehicle disrupts the grid”
✅ GOOD SCENARIO (If managed correctly)︎
- If there is a smart charging (V1G)* application (If it slows down / postpones charging at peak in the evening, accelerates it at night or during hours when production is abundant)
- If charging is automatically shifted to night hours, if time-based tariffs are applied
- If the distribution network is monitored on a transformer basis, if transformer loads are examined and rational investments are made▪
➡️ Network investments are postponed, costs decrease.
➡️ There is no negativity in the perception of electric vehicles.
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE
📌 It is not electric vehicles that threaten the grid, but how we prepare for the “increase” of electric vehicles.
📌 If the right charging strategies don’t happen today, the risk of cost, downtime and reputation of grid providers will occur tomorrow.
Let’s come to the high-level aspect of the business. In other words, what is being implemented structurally in the part of the world outside of us to prevent the worst scenario?
📌 What is V2G?
Stockpiling the generated electricity requires a very costly structure. For this reason, finding the demand-supply balance is fundamental for the grid.
With the system called V2G (Vehicle to Grid), the model of electric vehicles supplying electricity to the grid and receiving a fee in return is being implemented in Europe during peak periods, that is, when the grid needs electricity.
With this system, the user sets certain limits and ensures that the network is fed back. Say your vehicle is at 100% charge level and you will not use your vehicle for a few days. You can get financial support by using 60% as a limit and feeding 40% of your charge back to the grid and getting reimbursement from the high bracket.
